Desktop Search Engines

I have been amazed at how many desktop search products there are. Many are free, but some cost just a few dollars up to several hundred dollars. The programs in this review are for Windows platforms, and there are so many I have limited the discussion to those that looked to be the best. Frankly, they all have some functions that are similar, and whichever one is chosen will, in many ways, reflect the personal preferences of the user.
All of you, at some time, surf the Web for random information. Most of you have used search engines like Google, Ask.com, and many others which search the Internet for information. That kind of search is quite different from searching your own computer, or your local network. Desktop Search programs are designed just for finding your own files and the documents they contain.
